Supplies:
black or dark color paper
chalk pastels
scratch paper to cut wave into

white oil pastels
Day 1:
Introduce students to information about Aurora Borealis. Info: The Aurora Borealis is made up of electrically charged particles colliding with the Earth’s magnetic field. But what causes those electrically charged particles? Weather! Solar storms on our star's surface give out huge clouds of electrically charged particles. These particles can travel millions of miles, and some may eventually collide with the Earth.
Students will use white oil pastel to draw glacier/mountains at the bottom of the black page.
Day 2:
Students cut a wave shape into scratch paper. Students use chalk pastels to color small patches onto scratch paper. Place paper onto black background paper. Use finger to blend colors onto black paper. This will create an image of lights shining in the sky.
Students can use white oil pastel to paint on white stars into the sky.
